Amir

Disoriented, drained of all his energy, heavy rain pouring down onto him, completely soaking his clothing. Intense lightning filling the night skies as the tremendous booms of thunder fill his ears, these are Amir's earliest memories. A strange man came across this young boy, he was wearing a black hooded robe, his face not visible. He picked Amir up and slung him onto his horse. This man took care of the bed ridden half-elf. Once Amir's condition was improving he was frightened at first, for not being where he last remembered being. The stranger took quick action to calm his fears, and reassured him that he was safe.

On a clear day, after his recovery and his strength were regained, Amir went outside for the first time in months. He was slightly shocked to see what was out there. There were graves as far as the eye could see. The stranger who took him in was of a frail build, middle aged, and his hair was slightly graying. He was the mortician of this graveyard. Amir started working, earning his stay with the man, digging graves, putting corpses into caskets, and lowering them into the graves that were dug. He also help with building mausoleums and crypts.

Some years have gone by, the two still living together. He knew that his time was growing short. The mortician had to rely on Amir to do all of the hard work, and could only supervise. During one night, they were taking a stroll, patrolling for grave robbers. The sky was clear, there was a full moon, and some crows could be heard coming from the trees. Instead of staying on the path, the man led Amir into a secret crypt. It was dimly lit by candlelight, thick dust coated everything, and the walls were covered in cobwebs. They reached the end of the crypt where there was an obsidian dais in the middle of chamber, and beside it was a black marble podium.

Two skeletons quickly emerged from the thickly covered cobwebbed walls, and strapped Amir onto the dais. The mortician stood at the podium and started a chant. The time seemed to of stood still, yet move exceedingly quick at the same time. Amir passes out as the mortician continued, and kept repeating himself; with each chant he gets louder. By the time Amir comes to, he finds his comrade fallen on the floor, dead… then he soon realized that something was different about him, he went to look at his hands, and realized that his left hand no longer had any flesh or skin on it, but only composed of the bone structure. Knowing that the people of the town would not react positively to this, he’s always kept it covered by wear gloves for fear of his life.

He took over the position as the mortician; serving as a temporary replacement… he knew that this was not his place in life. Granted he grew very fascinated with death, studying the dead, diseases, and the affects they have on the living with the time he spent with the deceased mortician. He knew that he could not safely continue his studies and experiments where he currently was.

He roamed endlessly from town to town, city to city, for some years looking for that one place that he felt that he could be safe. Although they cannot be proven, rumors have it that mysterious illnesses and plagues spread through the places that he visited like wildfire. Not a single person was able to make any connections between the spreading of the diseases and his presence though. He just simply remained a mysterious stranger who kept to himself, and never caused any trouble, or bothered anyone.

On one foggy, hazy, dreary day he found himself in front of a rather large gate, leading into a nicely populated city. He never grew accustomed to being around many people, and at times; it just made him rather uncomfortable. He often found the easiest solution for this was to take himself out of the situation. He found it rather hard to do so on this city in which the citizens called Stonegate. Never had he seen such diversity before in all his life. He was quite fascinated with it, but never knew what to do in such a situation. He found a couple of people who had common interests with him. He decided that he would stay here for a while, as finding a large cemetery, which he could continue with some of his practices, not to mention many areas surrounding the city that he would like to explore…
