Reflections

by Mercatox Venteero

It had been many months since a break from life was given to him. The workload finally decreased. In this time, Mercatox decided to reflect on his life. His inked feather touched the parchment and he began writing:

Many years have gone by since the last I wrote on a parchment. Many things have changed. It is as if I am currently living in a new world. Nevertheless, I have done a few things. Leaving the Barony of Karathos, due to the baron, accepting a person who directly attacked a person under his service, and stripped all his belongings, I was pain sticken. I befriended many within the barony. I could not stay in a place where I felt I had to keep my guard up at all times. My life or my death. That statement toiled my mind for a very long time before I actually had the courage to leave the barony. No one knows why I left. Many thought Desparin was a great addition to the barony. Many favored him over myself even though I had done everything in my power to make sure everything was in top condition. That was not good enough for the baron. He wanted an outsider over his own. He would rather disgrace the barony with such filth as a necromancer that had fought along side with the scum of this realm, Splitrock clan. That led to travel around the realm until I came across the Duchy of Quessa. This place was supposed to be completely destroyed, and that it was.

My eyes fell upon the rumble of the once great duchy. Was this duchy to be resurrected? Was it supposed to gain the power it once had before the goblin wars? This was all a mystery to me, but I believed I could assist in that task. This led to me join the duchy. When I entered under the territory of the Duchy of Quessa, it had no real leader, only a man, Roderick, whom had been looking for a heir to the throne. I spent much of my time looking for a person to relate to. I came across a man known as Aaryn. He was level headed. Something that seems to be neglected within this realm. We talked, and the relationship between progressed until I considered him by brother. Besides my cousin, Raekwon, Aaryn was the closest person to me.

As more time past, Aaryn and I seemed to have gotten into many battles with others. Many of which we were triumphant in. He knew how to protect me in battle, and I looked out for him as well. We became a great team. Soon, Roderick found the heir to the throne. Her name happened to be Cerridwen. She was indeed different from most leaders. She was not human. She seemed to be the product of a human and an elf. This was rather strange. Being so loyal to the Duchy, Aaryn soon became the Chancellor and myself, the Ambassador. We looked for the smooth running of the reconstruction of the Duchy when the Duchess rested. We made sure everything ran smoothly. Aaryn soon realized that he was not made out for the Chancellor position, and soon stopped showing his face as much as he used to. This was upsetting to me. My brother was no longer at my side. As a result, I was moved up to his position. I pledged to serve as well as Aaryn would have in the position. This IS my goal.

He placed the feather down. Slowly, Mercatox examined the scroll for a while. Upon completion of examination, he rolled the scroll up and placed it in his sash. There it stayed until he could store it in a better place.
